I am new to the "fun" world of Family Table parts/ assemblies. I've got the general scheme down pat but I am confused about Renaming the "Generic" file and the associated files of the "Instances".My situation has the added wrinkle of using Windchill-based PRO/Intralink as my PDM.SITUATIONCurrent Filenames:Generic Filename = Widget_generic.asmInstance 1 Filename = Widget_inst1.asmInstance 2 Filename = Widget_inst2.asmI want to Rename those files as shown here:Generic Filename = Bracket_generic.asmInstance 1 Filename = Bracket_inst1.asmInstance 2 Filename = Bracket_inst2.asmFirst thing I did in my Renaming process was to Rename the Generic file in Windchill. That worked as expected. No surprises.Then following the rules (as I understand them), I  then checked-out the Generic file and the files of both Instances.Then I opened the Generic file in Creo, opened the Family Table, then edited the names of the Instances to my desired new filenames.I verified all Instances, closed down the

Windchill does not allow me use the same part number for my part/assembly to name my drawing file. I have been using Pro/E for over 15 years, and have never had this problem. Can someone help me out to correct this issue?

For some reason we do not pay much attention to the attribute PTC Common name in Creo/Windchill. But, when I do a quick search in Windchill this is one of the attributes that is searched upon. Now the question, can I change these preferences and for example make the search for filename instead? Is this possible?

Is there a way to display mass properties of CAD documents from a list of part numbers? I have a list of numbers and can search/display them in windchill but would like to display the mass of each as well.  I would also ultimately like to export the list to excel.  Basically I want to add a column to the search that displays the mass of each item.Thanks for any insight.

New request from one of our VPs.He's looking for a way to download the model representations in a format that can be pasted into a document of some sort (probably word doc). The best solution would be a way to have this happen to a predetermined list of part numbers.

I am getting multiple reports from users with WGM (IE11 browser type) issues (lockups, spinning wheel, check in issues) after a Windows update with CP3 M030.  Setting browser type to Chromium resolves issue as does rolling back the update.    We have targeted the specific KB to:  Cumulative Security Update for IE11 for Win 7 x64 (KB3093983).   If you have this security update installed with a later CP3 build, are you getting similar WGM issues?--Kirk Wemple

Is anybody having issues opening NX 7.5 files in Creo 3.0 M050/Windchill 10.2 M030? If an NX file is opened from a workspace Creo session fails. If that same file is opened from a folder location on the Creo workstation it opens as expected. I've included the traceback.log file I received.

Some of our Pro/Engineer/Wildfire/Creo Parametric licenses came bundled with a heavy user license of Windchill PDMLink when they were purchased. I'm trying to sort through all of this.Does anyone have a link to a PTC document that shows this information? Including for older licenses of Pro/E?Or is it the usual PTC M.O. of making this as arcane as possible. I mean, the amount of confusion and time spent trying to sort though this at 5 different companies was quite frustrating.

I had a rather large assembly checked out to my local workspace with several subassemblies and components also checked out. All of them were modified over the course of a few days. I noticed that a standard part had been modified unintentionally. Using the embedded browser, I selected the standard part and told WC to update. I didn't notice it until it was too late, but WC mistakenly grabbed all the modified assembly, subassembly and components also and downloaded them.It was a mistake of being in a hurry. Is there any way to recover the parts that I had?

We have a requirement to reassign many thousands of lifecycles and team templates. Would anybody be able to offer any tips/methods to achieve this in bulk, perhaps via the Windchill shell? It would be extremely time consuming/impossible to do it through the UI due to the high number objects involved. How do you expand all levels of the structure for a Part Instance without having to click on each level to open them up?

When completing a compare of 2 revisions of an instance, it will not show anything below a serialized component nd also will not compare the serial number attributes.  Is there a way to get Windchill to allow this type of compare to go forward?

Hi All!Upgraded to Creo 3.0 m050 and Windchill 10.2 m030 a couple of weeks ago. Now when I add an instance to the family table it insists: "To save this generic, the entire family table must be updated". I do the same actions in Creo2.0 m070 (and WC 10.2 m030) with the same config options and it is modifying only the generic and a new instance. Anybody was able to solve this? I have a call opened with PTC, no resolution so far.Any help is appreciated!Thank you,Dmitry

I am new to Windchill.  I have some experiencing in creating reports using other software.  What I want to do is create a report that shows the current incomplete task and assignee associated with an open change request.  If a change notice is associated with a change request, I want to  display the current incomplete task and assignee associated with the the change notice.  As I understand it, when I retrieve the tasks associated with the CR, I'm only retrieving the tasks within the CR's workflow.  In order to also retrieve the CN task, I would need to have the query check the state of the CR and if it is approved, retrieve the task associated with the change notice's workflow.   In my past experience, I would have used a CASE statement  to provide the IF - THEN- ELSE functionality but I'm stumped on how to do that within query builder.  Has anyone done something similar?  I've read every resource document I can find but I have ye

All,As Org / Site admin or Product Manager, how to got to some other user's workspace, view contents and perform actions on them?From Workspace tab - Other user's workspace, we can get list of workspaces of a user, but the only action available at that point is to Delete.It becomes essential to view the contents of a user's workspace and perform appropriate actions (undo check-out or check-in, etc.,) especially if the user is not availbale for the moment (may be on vacation or left the organization or whatever) to keep the work moving.We are on 9.1 M060.Thanks for your help in advance,Prabhakaran V.

My company is about to roll out PDM Essentials. The server we purchased was based on specs provided by our VAR and is a virtual server. The server intermittently goes offline for a few minutes each hour from just a few seconds up to ten minutes. We are running 10.2 with the latest patch. I don't have the specs on the machine, and I'm also not even close to being an expert in networking. It is the only server we have that does this. We are moving to Creo 3 with the roll out.Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start debugging this? When it goes down, I can't ping it. That's all I can tell you.Thanks,-Dave

Hellois there a way in PDMLink to pull out the overall access permissions of each users, user groups etc. ?I cannot find any tool from the site utilities page.Is it something companies have to develop themself or buy a third party software ?Thank you
