I've been doing lots of work in XSLT/FO but I'm having to switch gears andwork on a FOSI.I'm in the XSLT/XPATH mindset and I know there are similar capabilities, but I'm wondering if the approaches to problems would be different. TheI'm currently considering is transformation, specifically moving largesections around. So I have a rear section that can contain appendices, list of effective pages, index, etc. In my DTD I want to set a specificorder and repeatability on these objects. So I have the following:* appendix? index? lepwell some groups might want the lep in front of the index. With XSLT Iwould just choose to process the lep before the index and I wouldn'tchange the physical order in the content. FOSIs I've seen in the past seemto just process things in place in terms of large objects. They generatetext and such but I don't think I've seen much reorganization of thecontent. Is this a limitation of FOSIs or just the [programming style of the writer?..dan
We're gearing up to translate some documents and I was wondering if anyone has experience with using other languages in Arbortext documents, particularly non-Western languages such as Russian, Chinese, and Arabic. How does it work? What issues do I need to be aware of? Any guidance is appreciated. Carolyn Herlin
Hello Adepters,I've created an embedded xui dialog box that's a simple dropdown menu, and its purpose is to let the user set an attribute value on the replaced element. When the dialog box is loaded, I want the dropdown to display the current value of the attribute. But I can't figure out how to access the replaced element from inside the WindowLoad event handler. I can access it from the domactivate event by using: Application.event.view.window.ownerNodeBut Application.event.view is undefined when I try to do that from the WindowLoad event. Any pointers? This seems like it should be easy to do.Thanks,-James
I know that you can use the wild-card character (*) in the context attribute of a FOSI e-i-c, such as context="para * chapter", which would mean a <para> within a <chapter> with any other elements in-between.However, I would like to know if there is a way to use a wild-card to describe all elements with a certain suffix. We have dozens of container elements which can contain this inline element, and whose names all end in the suffix "-xxx-yyy".Let's say we have an e-i-c for an element called "inline" (<inline>). If this element occurs within the context of any of the elements whose name ends with the "-xxx-yyy" suffix, it always needs to be formatted a certain way, which is different from the formatting in other contexts.I would like to use something like <e-i-c gi="inline" context="*-xxx-yyy">, which I know will not work because of the default FOSI wild-card (*) character. Is there another way to write this without listing all of the dozens of "-xxx-yyy" elemen
Hi Everyone,We have discovered an issue with recompiling from 5.4 to 5.3. This situation is we are testing 5.4M40 for our books. Only a few of us have 5.4 on our machines. We released it on a limited basis since I found no issues with using 5.4 in the classroom for training and in any of the books that I have worked on. However, today we discovered that if a DTD is compiled in 5.4 and then someone using 5.3 reopens the same DTD and recompiles to 5.3, some elements are no longer listed in the DTD Viewer, i.e. TABLE. According to the DTD, Table should be allowed anywhere in the <front> element, but when we recompile in 5.3 from 5.4 the element <table> is no longer valid in <front>. So I guess my question is this, has anyone else had any problems recompiling to an earlier version after opening a document in 5.4.
I don't even know if this is possible but I need to be able to add alternative text to an image in XML file so that when it is converted to a PDF and the user places there cursor over the image it produces the alternative text. Just like when you hover your cursor over a graphic file on an HTML page. Can this even be done through a FOSI stylesheet? Thanks in advance for your response.Sarah
I have down loaded and installed the first four versions of Epic 5.4. I recently noticed the following problem with all four versions. If I open an existingdocument I am unable to add any tagging at the beginning of the document. The tag will appear at the bottom of the document or the next valid spot. This currently works in the Epic 5.3 versions. I read through the release notes of the 5.4 versions and tried a few things but have not figured out the problem. We are using the UNIX version and SGML.Thank you for any help.
I am running IsoDraw 7.1 and have dual monitors. I have noticed that if I move my &quot;layer window&quot; to my second monitor I can not reorder the layers. I have to move the window back into the drawing space to reorder layers. I can do everything else I just can't reorder the layers. Is there a fix for this? I am running 7.1 F000 Thank You Keith Howard -
I've been requested to buiild a NATOPS Pocket Checklist in XML and use a FOSI to format it. This is a 5x8 pocket guide in which pages are bound on the top edge and the pages have cut tabs down the one edge. These are ultimate printed on card stock with some sort of comb binding/rings that allow you to flip the thing open and fold it back. Thus far we have produced these in Frame and Interleaf and approached it as a layout problem. We want to convert this process over to XML and use a FOSI. The XML is not a problem, I'm curious what (if any) people see as pitfalls with making these tabs. I'm assuming that I can easily set a top binding edge instead of a left one.thanks..dan
Hello, I currently use IsoDraw6 on my XP machine and will be switching over to a Windows 7 computer. Will IsoDraw6 work on a Windows 7 computer? If so, under what settings? If IsoDraw6 is not compatible with Windows 7, i have many files created/editted from IsoDraw6 and want to know if there are any errors/effects with using IsoDraw7 on these files? Thanks, Monica
What does this mean in English??? Cannot allow a change where neither CPA change markup nor change attributes are allowed. I have a CPA file, and would like to add NEWPAGE element (and other elements too), yet I am not able and receive this error message.
Adepters,We're planning to move to Editor 5.4 and during preliminary testing I've noticed some very strange behavior with spell-check when compared to Editor 5.2.First, it's taking words from one or more adjacent tags, merging them, and highlighting them as a misspelling. Unfortunately, these words would never appear together. For example, our index tagging: <indexterm><primaryentry>Variable</primaryentry><secondaryentry>XYZ</secondaryentry></indexterm>. Spell-check is highlighting "VariableXYZ" as misspelled. Of course, I could turn off spell-checking for index entries, but we really want them spell-checked.Second, it's reported repeated words that have an intervening tag. For example: Set to <lit>XYZ</lit> to activate this option.Spell check highlights "to XYZ to" as a repeated word. Again, I could turn off warning about repeated words, but that is something we'd like to know about.Lastly, in some instances like the index term I showed
Hi,I have my bleed tabs set up in a region that goes off the page. I was able to create one PDF that Iwas able toadded the crop marks and the bleed was off the page just like it is suppose to be.BUT now I can't get the PDF to make the bleeds bleed. It must be a setting in the preflight or something like that in Acrobat, but it just isn't wanting to work for me. Anybody know the correct way for me to hold my mouth so these will come out? My hair is so thin I can't pull anymore out! Thanks,Ellen
Adepters.org has been migrated to a wiki environment. For now, I've got itclosed to anonymous contributors to keep the graffiti down. If anyone wouldlike to be a contributor, we want you to be one. If you don't want to buildpages, if you spot something useful, just send it to me and we'll get itadded. I'd like to get some APP pages and some IsoDraw pages as well. It'slanguished lately, but I'm hoping that the wiki format will encourage moreof you to want to contribute.Anyone interested in participating?Liz
Hello,My department iscurrently using Epic Editor 5.3 M030to edit XML documents, then using Adobe Distiller 6.0 to produce PDF files. We currently have a DTD and XSL that aid in the process. My question is what would it take to take our current XML documents and output them to the .epub format? Is this even possible? Thanks,Jack
I'm trying to write an ACL script in 5.2 that will take a user selectedrange of elements. In this case a series of step1 elements, take thatselection, delete and turn it into a seqlist with items. I can run thefollowing sample code at the command line and I get what I'm expecting:copy_mark buf1;delete_mark buf1;response(oid_name(oid_first(buffer_doc(buf1))));response(oid_content(oid_first(buffer_doc(buf1))));paste buf1;BUT when I put this in a file, create a funtion and assign it to the F12key, the response messages show no content, the delete doesn't work butthe paste does. Any ideas on what is going on?function step1_to_seqlist() {copy_mark buf1;delete_mark buf1;response(oid_name(oid_first(buffer_doc(buf1))));response(oid_content(oid_first(buffer_doc(buf1))));paste buf1;}response("loaded");map f12 step1_to_seqlist();
just an observationI don't normally use the website to access adepters but I had to today. Trying to get to this forum is not the most intuitive interface. you have to go to the forums tab and then Adepters doesn't show up on that page you have to expand the list and then it is not listed as Arbortext or Editor (it isn't even there alphabetically) but it is listed as Adepters and it is like one or 2 from the bottom of the list.A newbie looking for help would have to know this exists and what the group is even called...dan
Hello,The subject of my message is little different but my question is same as it was raised earlier in the below link in 2008.http://portal.ptcuser.org/p/fo/st/topic=21&post=70228#p70228Currently we use ArborText for XML editing but our business requires a web-based editor that can talk to our CMS so people outside of our regular editors can make changes to the content using a web browser. We are so accustomed to ArborText and because of this requirement we are pushed to see if any other editor in the market is capable of addressing this requirment. Can you guide if Arbortext is available/customizable for a web-based editor? If so is there a demo or sample website that I can take look.ThanksKarthik
Hi all,In my running heading I have set a text variable that has a subparttitle occurring at the bottom of the page using the BO modifier. In a few cases the subpart title skips to the next page, but the text variable seems to be already set to that, so thatthewrong subpart titletext shows up in the running header.Has anybody seen this and come up with a solution? Thanks,Ellen

Hello,I have the below ACL code:alias copyfit1 { set changetracking=offinsert_pi 'xpp copyfittext1';set changetracking=on}map F1 copyfit1As you can see that a PI is inserted. Our requirement is to turn the change tracking off when this PI is inserted. In the above code I could able to achieve this. But here is my issue - I do not want change tracking to be turned on when the PI is inserted for a docuemnt where we do not need change tracking at all i.e., if the document does not to be tracked whereas this PI should be inserted I do not want change tracking to be turned on after inserting the PI. For this can I check the status of change tracking in a document and have the code act according to the status of change tracking in the document. Thanks in advance.Karthik

Hi, Can someone point me in the direction of the preference setting to save your XML files from Editor clean, i.e. without CF+LF+tabs so its just the raw XML. It is easy in XMLSpy, but I cant see what i'm looking for in prefs/advanced. Any pointers how apreciated. Thanks!
Adepters:We have a Styler license and with that I can select from the File menu, Compose -> PDF File, fill in the name of the PDF file to create, the stylesheet to use, and have Arbortext Editor with Styler generate a PDF directly on my local machine. However, for the life of me I can't find any documentation of what the epic.exe command line would look like if I wanted to run it in a batch script. Anyone know what it would be or where I can find the information? Or, maybe it's not supported? Thanks,Dave HintzSiemens
Can you run spell check from the command line on a directory of xml files? We, uh, well...the guy next to me just did a search and replace to take out all line breaks...but forgot to put a space in. XML Tidy has done a fabulous job of fixing all 300 files BUT now we have a few sentences per file that have been combined where a sentence was broken, hence "when the temperatureis reached..." and such. This is gonna be a pain, wasn't backed up lately, not sure what I'll do...but would be a start if I could get editor to parse each and either tell me which had spelling errors - and preferably open those.Luckily this is the procedures chapters so most of the sentences are very short.John T.
