3D Part & Assembly Design

Hello eveyone, I am currently using the Creo Parametric Educational version 12.4.0.0, more specifically the "Generative Design" tool but without the Generative Design Extension (GDX). What element type or meshing is used by the software/tool? The answer would help me to compare my optimized model design with results from an external FEM software. 

What is the best way to route cabling? P clips assembly first and then route thru them or any other ideas? Please suggest. See image

Hi everyone,I’m working with a sheet metal part in Creo 9.0.10.0 that comes off the roll as a single sheet. It is then bent and cut into left and right terminals. I’m trying to unbend these two distinct pieces in one flat pattern but it fails with "Recommended actions: Merge all highlighted distinct pieces to the model."I came across an article in the PTC Help Center that mentions using distinct areas or disjoint volumes, but it’s very vague. The article doesn’t include any images or step-by-step instructions, so I’m not sure how to apply this technique to my situation. (if it even applies) Has anyone encountered this issue or figured out how to do this?I also see that you can turn distinct pieces into separate models but I'm not interested in this approach. I would like to use flat reps if possible. Attached is a screenshot of a  dummy part I made without IP.

As at least until Creo Parametric 11.0.6.0 when making a cut while using extrude or hole (and several other things that cut through geometry) the default is "Blind" and then with some random depth.It would be far more confienient when this is "Through all" by default. This also solves that much engineers do not take the effort to set the depth to through all so the end of the cutout is somewhere outside the geometry (as shown below)  So make a config.pro option tho set the default to "Through all" for at least the cases shown below.   

I am using Creo Parametric Release 12.4 and Datecode12.4.1.0Our customer imports a DXF file into Creo. Because this DXF contains many entities/lines, the model becomes laggy when they try to rebuild the sketch after import. The customer's workstation is high-end (32 GB RAM, 16-core CPU, 6 GB GPU), yet the performance is still slow. Could you please advise whether they need to increase hardware specs, or how best to process/clean the DXF file for better performance?

When editing a family table in excel. Excel is asking for a location to save the file after editing, rather than saving to the temporary file and exiting to the family table. Therefor the changes are not made to the table.  This is intermittent for some, consistent for others. Creo 10, Windchill 4, Office 360 2507

Folks I have an assembly with two components in Creo 10.. Intially, i had a subassembly instead of the shrinkwrap part but these boolean operations wont recognize assemblies. The cylinder represents the cavity that we are restrained.  the part represents our final 3D print part that fits inside the cavity. So I want to cutout all the external geometry from the tetras part outside the cylinder volume. I tried picking either one as the modified models/modifying components without any results. Tried different sizes of cylinder and no good. I wonder if i should use the "create part intersect" which also didnt work.  Any ideas please share thanks

Traditionally, our company uses a revision block on 2D drawings to show the current revision and list all changes from the previous version. As we transition to model-based definition (MBD), I'm trying to determine the best way to display revision history directly within the 3D model. My first thought would be to use a table similar to what we do in 2D drawings; however, I am currently using Creo 7.0.2.0, and editable tables are not added until Creo 11 from what I've seen. My second thought would be to have separate combined states for each revision displaying everything that has changed, but if a change is made to a dimension that is not initially displayed in the model, such as basic dimensions, how should that be documented for approval purposes? Another thought would be to use "Is/Was" reports, but this seems to be tedious, and I had the same question about what to do with dimensions that are not initially displayed. Would anyone who has experience with this be able to we

Hello Team,-Creo 9 with Windchill.I'm looking to create a mapkey to quickly open a drawing of a room that's already open.I've done a lot of research and i can never find a working solution. please don't redirect me to an alternative solution.I know that a part can have several drawings or be included in other drawings. However, in my case, 90% of the parts created have only one drawing, which has exactly the same name as the part, with .drw instead of .prt.I've created a relationship: DRAWING = PART_ID+ ".DRW".I now have a parameter with the right value.Since copy and paste doesn't work in mapkey commands, is there a line of OS script code that you could put in a mapkey to say, open "parametre drawing"?I work in a company that doesn't allow third-party applications to be installed.Thank in advance.

How can i create a datum plane parallel to screen orientation? Default coordinate system is oriented in the default orientation as i enter in an empty part model. I want to create a datum plane parallel to the screen, while the coordinate is in the default orientation.

A recurring issue arises when a designer does not use a skeleton model: the parts or subassemblies do not assemble correctly when using the “Default” constraint in the main assembly.With a large top-level assembly, it becomes quite time-consuming if every designer has to manually constrain each part or subassembly to the correct position.Workaround Tried:One approach I’ve used is to create a new coordinate system in the desired position, export the part/assembly as a STEP file, customize the export to use this new coordinate system as the default, and then reimport it. Hello, I'm asking help to know if there is a way in assembly to make constraint play on values of a flexible element. I have a 6DOF robot arm saved as an flexible asm. To place it I'm currently making his base's origin concurrent with the floor's one (cf. constraints.png). In order to make it looks like the right position, I change each angle of rotation he had (which are all 6 flexible elements) degrees by degrees which is painfull (cf. flexible elements list.png). Regarding this issue, I want to know if it's possible to add an other constraint on the robot arm, this time with gripper and make both of his constraints change the value of the flexible element instead of changing all by hand.PS : I'm a using Creo 11

Hello, I have applied an appearance to a model for carbon steel. I added the appearance by highlighting the whole part, then selecting the desired appearance. Where the issue comes into play is if you modify the part in any way, it will change the cut/intersected surfaces back to the default generic/grey appearance while it needs to be the new carbon steel appearance. Is there some sort of setting to fix this? Please see example below.   

Hi!Recently we had a problem with updating views on drawing regarding AFX profils. The views do not reflect the changes made in the 3D. We are forced to manually update all the views for each drawing. Since we have hundreds of drawings per project, this takes an enormous amount of time. And normally, it used to work perfectly fine before. For the past few weeks, it hasn’t been working anymore. The variable auto_regen_views is set to ‘yes’.Has anyone else encountered this issue recently?Thanks for your help.

I'm using Creo 7.0.2.0 and working on implementing Model-Based Definition (MBD) at my company. Are there any specific config.pro or detail options that should be set or adjusted to better support MBD workflows?

We are new to MBD. How do we create the MBD format? Can we use the 2D format? Please share any link and youtube or videos.

Hello,When I make a drawing of a part, we are making it two pages as the second one is same for all including general information. I have a question. Can I make a .frm file and make a drawing with that format to have 2 pages? I do have .frm file for the first page for general title block and another .frm file for second page to insert after manually creating second page at the drawing. What I need create a two page .frm file and when I call it at the beginning it will create desired two page drawing without need of creating second page afterwards.Please ask if it is not clear for you. Please let me know if there is a good method for creating a winding model when creating a conductor model.Using a helical sweep allows for the creation of a winding with a consistent thickness, but since the coil height is 18mm and the wall thickness is 12.5mm, bending the model created with the helical sweep will cause interference with the coil. Building a decent sized harness that will have a few places where things get spliced, found this video which give me some information on a way to do it...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1Ff4-zHkbA Few things I'd like to know is one is this the best way to add splices to a harness? Would there be a way to do it without adding another physical part to the mix? I have not verified this but doing it in this way would create a new wire number (W-1,W-2 etc) for each new wire that comes out of the splice which would show up as individual wires on a to from table in a drawing. Would there be another method that would call out all those wires as one wire number but still allow multiple gauges? If this is the only way then I get it Creo being Creo. I just find it hard to believe that there isn't a way to splice wires without adding another solid body to the harness assembly and just doing it right in the harness menu.

Hello, I am using Notebooks, Relations, and pro program to configure top level General Assemblies. The problem is, I keep getting the following error when regenerating one of our top level assemblies (blurred out some of the numbers): WARNING: More than one common interchange group found.More than one common interchange. Attempting to replace with xxxxxxxx_INT.Pro/Program replace of component xxxxxxxxxxxx (M94) failed in Assembly xxxxxxxxx.Aborting regeneration due to failures executing Pro/Program. The notebook relations to drive parameters are similar to what you see below Starter_name & Starter_Number are parameters. Starter_Number is the part number in windchill 11.0 commonspace. pro/program example is shown below  The issue is that we have a new interchange assembly that is set up correctly to swap these starters. For some reason, Creo wants to use an older interchange that is not set up correctly, but has one of the models inside it. Is

I have a part with Appearance State already defined, how do I "link" that appearance to the assembly? Context:  I already defined 3 appearance states of a part by assigning colors to various surfaces (for texture map, finished product color, and the default model color). In the assembly, is there a way to quickly switch between these Appearance States of the part? The appearance state of the assembly seems completely independent of the part's appearance. I figure it is to be done via layers or representations, but had zero luck. Thank you.
